Post-Christmas Round-Up
Dec. 27th, 2005 08:49 amDrama Levels: Overall low, with a sudden spike just before departure. (Luckily, we didn't get much on us.)
Joy Levels: Overall high. Families in good spirits, got to see some old friends with their new kids. FIL's health much improved. Grandma making dire predictions about "not making next Christmas" until she was reminded that she had to wait around for great-grandkids.
Best Liked Gift (Given): A red and black "church hat" for the MIL. She went bananas!
Best Liked Gift (Received): Wedding proofs. SQUEE!!! Gorgeous gorgeous pictures!
Spousal Gift Exchange: B+s on both sides, it seemed: gifts well-received and appreciated without theatrical gasps and squeals. For him: A&E's Horatio Hornblower movies. For me: Child's five volume collection of ballads, which no bardic household should be without!
Travel Summary: To and from both fine except for Delaware on the return trip; 60min to cover 10-mile state. Yeesh.
Felt Worst About: Gift-giving lackluster this year; I blame the utter self-absorption that comes with trying to write one's dissertation, plan one's wedding, move into one's new trailer, and find one's new job. Resolving to be more other-focused next year.
Felt Best About: General attitudes of holiday goodwill prevailing in both households.
