Color-Coded
Jun. 21st, 2005 08:15 amWhen I was a kid, we had a book: The Little Old Man Who Could Not Read. The old man never saw the point to reading until his wife sent him to the supermarket. He picked up things that came in boxes and cans shaped and colored like the ones his wife bought, then tried to make dinner. And things were mixed up, like he bought aluminium foil instead of spagetti, because the boxes were the same shape.
My milk has been tasting funny this week. Is it bad? No, it is brand-new milk. Is it milk? Yes, it is regular milk. Is it the skim milk I have been drinking since college? No, no it is not. But it is in a blue carton, which is the color of the skim milk cartons at Giant. But at Weiss, where this milk is from, blue is the color of whole milk cartons. *facepalm*
Edit: Apparently, it was waxed paper, not aluminium foil, that the old man bought. My bad.

Quote of the Day
Jun. 21st, 2005 08:28 am"A lot of (the carvings) aren't particularly representational of animals. There are some bird tracks, and some appear to be the great underwater panther, thunderbirds, things common to a great many native people across the Midwest."
--- John Halsey, Michigan's state archaeologist, on the nature of some petroglyphs in danger of erosion.
I have never before heard of the Great Underwater Panther, but suddenly feel that I should look into it.
