"Oooooh, you are the rebel! Look at the rebel who does not believe in the socks for the expensive shoes!"

I don't follow politics all that closely, so I have only the very highest, top-level view of the Roberts nomination. To me, it looks something like this:

Republican control of House and Senate makes Democrats nervous; they ask that the President go with a moderate conservative rather than some far-right fellow.

The President nominates a moderate conservative.

The Democrats fairly reply that, while this looks good, they still need to do a background check on the guy.

No mud has been slung (except maybe by special interest groups).

Hallelujah! Could our elected officials really be acting like grown-ups? Could they be open to compromise, and fair, and strong? Bush could've picked someone dreadful, or the Democrats could've been contrary no matter who was selected. But no...! Both sides are coming out of this looking reasonable and mature! Eeee!

There's certainly some stuff to get straight with Roberts; I don't think senators from either party ought to give any Court nominee a free pass. This is a big-time job interview. But if the interview can be conducted in a rational manner, with a minimum of dramatic posturing and screaming and table-pounding (again, on either side), that would be so totally sweet.

I have a bunch of websites. Some are for SCA bardic stuff. Some are for gamer stuff. Once, I wrote up a series called "Physics for Gamers" that was intended to help 30 year old gamers who were having arguments over whether or not the law of conservation of momentum would apply to teleportation. I can't see where I've hosted it myself, but the series is over at The Dungeon Masters' Guild, which is who I wrote it for.

I got an email today about it.
