Jubilation
Feb. 8th, 2006 07:22 amLast night, eight people came to my house to express their interest in a local SCA music group. Eight! At least five more expressed varying degrees of interest but had conflicts. Even with the traditional 50-75% attrition rates you see on these things after the first 1-2 meetings, we ought to have a few dedicated folks.
We're to meet every two weeks, with a performance goal at Storvik's Baronial Birthday. We're partly an ensemble and partly trying to create a shared musical community with a repetoire in common - so that no matter who we see at an event, we can grab them and do something together.
And! And! I did a real simple arrangment of "Laudemus Virginem," a three-bar melody that uses all of six notes. We had two harps, a classical guitar, a drum, a triangle, and two parts of a round going. With an attempt at harmony, for good measure! Granted, we stopped trying to get everyone to learn the words and just sang, "Ping, ping, ping" for starters, but it sounded good!
Huz-zah. I've been wanting to get something like this off the ground for ages, and it's off to a good start.
