24.5 hour countdown
Apr. 6th, 2006 09:30 amMy dissertation defense is at 10 am tomorrow.
My slide show is 95% ready. There is one paper I need to re-read. I have a handful of backup slides for the questions I've anticipated. I am adjusting my attitude to Excited! Proud! Pleased with my results! You should be too! And I'm getting my hair highlighted.
Hey... if I don't like it, I can clip it up and still look professional. If I'd had it done for the wedding and didn't like it, I'd be stuck with displeasing wedding photos. I didn't want to screw with anything for the wedding. Appearance-wise, this is lower stakes. If they look great, huzzah! I get a pleasant attitude boost. If I don't like them, like I said, I pull the hair up or back and it doesn't matter.
On the down side, the practice presentation resulted in the removal of the Schlock Mercenary comic from the slide show. Now I'll be talking about moon rovers and satellite servicing robots instead.
53 slides, of which about 5 or 8 are just "special effects" slides (a copy of the prior slide but with something highlighted, say). So roughly 45 slides, which is more than I really want but I do talk fast, so hopefully it won't drag on for too long. 45 minutes would be the ideal length for my jabbering; the audience falls asleep after that.
OK, time to run through the slides again...
