My first research proposal
Aug. 3rd, 2006 07:42 amI've submitted a research proposal, which has gotten up to the Big Cheese for review. If the Cheese passes it on, I get to make a presentation to our "Gimme the Money" board, in the hopes that they will gimme some money to do the research.
Well, the Big Cheese has a few questions on how novel the proposed research is, and whether it's science or engineering. That's reasonable.
I note in my own defense that this is a somewhat recycled proposal, first submitted by my boss last year and rejected. I got to see it a whole 24 hours before it was submitted. It sounded good to me, and I trust my boss, but this morning I went to Google to see if anyone else was doing similar work.
Is it so very Cold War of me to look at the two other papers examining this idea and want to tell the Big Cheese "The Chinese are doing it!" like it's a reason that we should, too?
