Acupressure goodness
Oct. 23rd, 2006 09:23 amSo, the worst thing about first trimester has been the constant low-grade nausea. I can get a handle on it by eating nearly constantly, but there's definite drawbacks to that, too. (The midwife wants me to gain only 20 lbs, and first trimester is not the time to put it on!)
The Spouse has been reading his own "for men" pregnancy book, and it recommended Sea Bands. They're these little knit wristbands with plastic beads sewn into them, and you're supposed to position them so that the bead is pressing on an "acupressure" point on your inner wrist and they'll help relieve nausea. (They were originally marketed as a seasickness aid, hence the name.) I had also read that they "offered relief to some women" but was in general dubious about them. But! I wished to be an enlightened Spouse and offer validation to the time The Spouse was putting into reading up on my pregnancy, so I went to CVS and blew $10 on a pair.
Wow. They are not a cure-all. I am still queasy in the morning, and I still have to eat well and regularly to maintain my blood sugar. I can't be stupid about it. But they really do take the edge off, and I'm getting hours and hours of happy tummy. The only drawback is that my wrists get itchy after having them on all day, but I will totally accept that.
