"It's not every day you get an axe dropped on your foot."
- Alec Gordon, whose black Laborador retriever, Rowan, dropped a 6,000 year old Neolithic stone axe on his foot while they were out for a walk. Clearly, since the cats dominate the field of experimental archaeology, the dogs are turning to more traditional fieldwork. They are, after all, better at digging.

The Rosemarkie is a 19-string, nylon or gut-strung, one-piece soundbox harp based on 8th cen Pictish stonecarvings:

It was on eBay, used, for half its retail price.

I've been saving my allowance.

It's so very weird - we (the Dear Spouse and I) give ourselves allowances after the bills are paid and the deposits have been made to savings. It's our mad money. And if I'd been frittering it away on lunches out or Starbucks or Amazon.com, in small amounts over time, I wouldn't feel badly about spending it. But dropping a bundle all at once, especially with the Spudling on the way, feels somehow irresponsible. Or selfish.

Eh, screw it. No need to get my Martyr Mother complex going sooner than I have to, right? IT MUST BE MINE!

"What Kind of Geek Are You?" should include the question: "Blackboard or white board?"

(My cubicle came equipped with a blackboard - the only one in the office, I think. My co-workers either think this is incredibly cool, or that I should demand that they give me a white board. Very polarizing, apparently.)
