Heading for the third trimester
Feb. 20th, 2007 08:03 amIn just over a week, I'll be starting my third trimester of pregnancy.
The second trimester was nifty, in that I got some of the cool pregnancy perks, like feeling fetal movement, but without many of the pregnancy pitfalls, like morning sickness and fatigue. I've just about gained a total of ten pounds, which seems about right - I'll be able to put on that last-dash pound a week in my last trimester and still be in the 20lb gain range.
I'd say three things are worthy of note in this beginning of the End Times:
Dancing Belly: Spud can be energetic enough now in his kicks that I can see my whole belly shake. That's pretty cool and quite entertaining so far.
Goddamnit, it's only 3:30am?: Just in the past week, finding a comfortable sleep position has become a challenge. What works one night does not work the night after. In 2nd trimester, I was sleeping a four-hour block, then waking up every two or so; now it's two two-hour blocks and waking up every one thereafter.
Equator: This actually first came up a month ago, in England. I used to have a waist, you see. Pudgy as I was, there was a definite necking-down right around my navel. This was good and useful and held my pants up.
It is gone now. Right around my navel is now wider than the surrounding region - although still, I think, smaller than my hips. So my pants don't fall completely off, you see, but they will sag alarmingly. We spent a good 45 minutes around St. Paul's, looking for stores that sold belts. It seems like a cosmic irony that, pregnant, I need a fashion accessory I primarily think of as masculine.
