People drive like maniacs in two dimensions. I've never understood the appeal to opening up a third, so people can aggressively cut me off from above, below, left or right. Especially since we lack the instincts to operate in full 6DOF (six degrees of freedom: up/down, forward/back, left/right, and rotating around each of those axes).
And are you going to define "air roads" or let the maniacs freefly? It's back to traffic jams in the one case (hellooo, Chicago O'Hare) or chaos in the other. You thought it was bad when people snuck up the right-hand shoulder...
