"May you never lack strings as long as there are guts in the English."
- Reportedly seen inscribed (in Scottish Gaelic) on a 16th cen. gut-strung harp in an illustration in Armstrong's 1904 "The Irish and the Highland Harps"

I found my class notes... did I honestly only write them a year ago? They seem poorly organized, and there are possibly way too many examples and too much rambling. I'm going to read it over thoroughly before I decide on posting the whole thing to my bardic site.

[livejournal.com profile] giddysinger proposed to [livejournal.com profile] gkaczns at a Washington Revels-sponsored contra dance. A bunch of us were on-hand to witness the occasion, but I didn't get to dance. A certain young fetus was making it difficult to keep my dinner down while sitting still, so all the whirling and swinging looked contraindicated (no pun actually intended).

I finally got to try it last night. )

It was probably just as well that the Spud didn't come - I saw plenty of mosquitoes (although I didn't get too many bites). I also didn't see too many kids, and zero babies. Until he's old enough for bug spray, or mosquito season is over, and until I find out if this is a "family" event or not, he probably shouldn't go.
