Long have I admired the Desborough necklace. It is chunky, yes, but that is so rarely a deterrent to me. It's a great piece of Dark Ages jewelry, in my opinion.

And The Met has this for sale.

Curses upon them, for they also have (for less than a third of the price) a simple strand of garnet and gold beads with a golden cross, a la the original... but nothing that combines the cross and the cabochons into a replica.

Anyway... I think I'll be saving my pennies...
