The data? For my dissertation?
Is collected.
(Now, that's not to say that there isn't more data that could be collected, or that my advisor won't see the Constraint Set 6 results and demand that they be redone, or anything like that. But. The. Data. Is. Collected. This could, in theory, be the last time I'll have to run that damn program.)

Date: 2006-03-08 04:34 pm (UTC)Over the course of the months I spent analyzing my data & writing it up, several questions about the data arose which could've been answered by taking more data - and at times I considered going back to it. But that trends toward topic creep, and by the time I was analyzing data, I just wanted to be DONE. So I wrote it up, included the caveats and recommendations / predictions for future experiments, published, and graduated.
The impression I get is that it's pretty rare for a topic to be closed firmly - especially by the person who started the research. So I recommend trying to move on, and resisting advisor / external pressures to take more data. Of course, if your advisor makes a really good point about the data being incomplete or contradictory, well, you'll have to go back to it.... but a few gaps or oddities are normal.
Congratulations & Good Luck!
