What I Did For My Summer Vacation
Aug. 19th, 2006 05:50 pmAfter a three year absence, Moe and I returned to Pennsic War.
For me, it was less of a bardic war and more of a musican's war. I attended four classes on music geek topics - theory, improvisation and ornamentation - but blew off the bardic symposia. On the other hand, I spontaneously composed a new (albeit simple) war chant for Storvik and wrote a two-page epic on "The Saga of Fishflinger" for a friend. Maybe I'll post that. I attended the Known World Harp Symposium, per normal, and did well there. It was a good year for concerts: I heard the tail end of Efenwealt Whistle's, all of Moonwulf's, and the Known World Choir's. I may try out for the Choir whenever I next attend Pennsic. I made it to four bardic circles and had a fine time at all of them.
Shopping was good; a great harvest of new CDs, a couple of books, and two new outfits for myself and two for Morgan.
All the same, I had a vague feeling of disconnect. I'm not going to launch into a discourse on corporate friendship right now, but I guess I finally understand some of the appeal.
Morgan got sickish on Friday, so we left early. And a good thing too...
When we got home Friday night, we walked into a humid sauna backed by an ominous "SSSSSS" sound. The water heater had sprung a leak! Luckily, no significant damage has been spotted and it was fixed promptly. However, the irony of our hot waterless state, having just returned from a camping trip with actual hot showers, was not lost to us.
