Too strange for a Friday

What possesses the California State Education Secretary to call a kid a "stupid dirty girl"?
The event: a young girl named Isis asks the fellow if he knows that her name means "Egyptian goddess." He "teases" back that it means "stupid dirty girl." To her credit, the girl just repeats back her name and its meaning, quite certain the old guy had it wrong. He did not persist in the teasing. He apologized (he claims he apologized "immediately," but the official statement was the next day).
Did space aliens beam that into his brain, or what?
Oh, it gets better.
A state Assemblyman (from the Other Party) is of course outraged, and had begun to organize a demonstration. Why? Because he questioned whether such a comment would have been made to a white girl.
The protest was cancelled when it became clear that Isis *is* a white girl. With blonde hair, no less.
The only ones who seem to be showing any maturity are Isis herself and her mother, who said that "Obviously it hurt her feelings, but she didn't take it personally. She knew he was wrong and she let it go. I'm not going to sue them for therapy bills."
