Remington

Fredric Remington, that is. He created paintings and bronzes on the theme of the American West.

I was surfing through some prints of his work, because (although it might be too late for Christmas) it has belatedly occurred to me that this is the sort of thing my father might like as a gift. Lord knows our family home features enough framed prints of American game fish.

This one is entitled "Great Explorers." I assume Remington is referring mostly (or exclusively) to the Native Americans paddling the canoe, not to the single white guy in the middle. Which is, in and of itself, a statement.

But my first, visceral response to it? "You idiot! Sit down in the canoe!"

Wow.

I haven't accidentally deleted an entire hour's worth of work in ages.

At least it was relatively stupid work (documenting my code); it's not like I had any elegant insights into anything that were lost. Just an exhaustive listing of the fields in Structure A and B.

AP says he looks like a "clean-shaven Santa Claus" in his hat. No, he looks like a scary Santa Claus. Ayyy!
