It started probably 10 years ago, when my boyfriend was just my friend and was dating someone else. They took a tour of France together and, when travelling through the countryside, would see cows. The first one to see a cow would point to it, and say, "Cow." The other would nod appreciatively.
When they got to Paris, my boyfriend discovered that he could make his companion look in any direction by casually pointing and saying, "Cow." Of course, there were no cows in Paris, which she knew - but now the response to look for a cow when "Cow." was uttered was too great. The phenomenom was called "bovilepsy," and seems to manifest even in people who haven't traveled France with my boyfriend.
(So he says. I personally think it might have more to do with the fact that the other person is *pointing,* and the reaction is to look to see what they're pointing *at.*)
So, when I see interesting cow-related stories in the news, I tend to head the post with "Cow." Didn't mean to startle you. :-)
