As a masonic wife myself (and Eastern Star), I'm highly amused. This flurry of publicity happens every couple years when a new conspiracy-theory book or movie comes out.

Though I wish the media would mention more of what masons actually DO spend time on... my husband's lodge organizes all sorts of community volunteer work and service projects, not to mention their hundreds of thousands of dollars in philanthropy every year. And they have pretty good dinners too; they just have the Stewards (junior officers) pick a caterer.

:) My dad is/was a Mason (I don't know if you can unjoin, but he hasn't been active in years). I mostly remember my mom shouting, "Hey, Grand Poobah! Phone!" when one of the lodge guys called up and respectfully asked to speak to the Worshipful Master.

Alas, an article on "Local men donate $50K to children's hospital" doesn't sell papers like "ZOMG Masonic Secrets!" It's not news, it's the MSM. :/
