All you have to bring is your love of everything
Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge has gone belly-up!
Over a dozen years later, I can still remember the commercial: couples playing tennis, swimming (I believe one pops up out of the pool, seal-like, to kiss the other), and hiking. He's helping her over a Pocono stream and they stand briefly on a rock in the middle of it nuzzling each other while that inane ear-worm jingle plays. Same bad 70s hair well into the 80s.
I don't remember all that many commercials from my youth. Wendy's "Where's the Beef?" of course. Beggin' Strips "I smell BACON!" The cereal commercials blend and blur with only the taglines sticking out, except for the holiday Pebbles one where Fred finally lets Barney have some cereal. All the Parker Brothers commericals with a little boy exclaiming, "I win!" at the end are more or less the same.
And Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge.
Maybe it's just a Jersey thing.

(...and the Pocono Gardens)
No, it's not just a Jersey thing. Upstate NY, too.
When I was briefly flipping through Bride's magazine in 1998-9, I saw ads for Poconos resorts with the same sort of feel. The one I remember most vividly had hot tubs in the rooms that were shaped like champagne glasses. Why? I have no idea.
So at least the spirit of the Mt. Airy Lodge lives on.
